3 Peaks in Yorkshire plus Malham Country Fair Fell Race.
A 15 strong group of Northampton Road Runners took themselves off to Yorkshire, primarily to tackle the 3 peaks challenge but got themselves involved in other activities too.
Saturday was the annual Malham Country Fair and as we were based in Malham if felt rude not to go along, especially as there was a 2.4 Mile fell race in the afternoon, what could go wrong?
Well 2.4 miles may not appear very far but when you throw in almost 200m of climbing you can see why these fell runners are tough characters. It wasn’t so much the going up but the coming down that caught us out, often running out of control and hoping we’d stay on our feet. Unfortunately we didn’t all manage this and Tony Letts took a tumble and had to be ambulanced off to the local hospital. 3 cracked ribs and a lot of bruising later meant that he was out of the next day’s challenge but otherwise OK.
More than I can say for the locals who had to endure Agnus Brown (Dave Solomon) hoist up his dress to get over the styles, thankfully he left the leopard print thong at home. The rest of the runners made it back in one piece and vowing to never do that again, unless of course one person does it then we’ll all have to.

3 Peaks Challenge
The 3 peaks challenge is all about scaling the 3 high points of Yorkshire, namely Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough in under 12 hours. This wasn’t to be a run but a hike with food and equipment onboard. We did complete the challenge and despite Dave having a slight fall and having to fight off the many volunteers wihsing to put their first aid training to the test we all got back ok. Tired but OK and many thanks to Akela (Elaine Palmer) for planning the route and for Mike’s input too.
