Fuerteventura Half Marathon

Travelling abroad for some winter sun and incorporating a holiday run is a perfect combination.

The Fuerteventura Half Marathon takes place in the National Park in Corralejo on the north of the island.

Upon registration the day before, runners are handed a tech t-shirt and a great sports bag plus invited to a pasta party too.

The following day was buzzing at the start line as competitors lined up in the morning sun, around 200 were running the half and 100 or so doing an 8K distance.

The route headed out through a residential street before hitting a rough rocky trail in the sand dunes.  It was a challenge finding you footing in and out of rocks and desert plants.  Around half way, the terrain changed to powdery sand and offered views over the Atlantic Ocean on your right hand side.  This is not a PB course by any means but it is an amazing challenging experience.

To add to the pre-race goodies, at the end there is unlimited beer, paella, fizzy pop, a cool medal and a free massage.  Then there is a beach for a bit of relaxation afterwards.
