COLWORTH MARATHON CHALLENGE 2016
Three words to describe the runners and supporters for NRR – ‘Determined’ ‘Inspiring’ and ‘Teamwork’.
It was a great turn out this weekend with lots of us camping with our families and friends. Each year, the support just gets bigger and bigger and NRR seemed to dominate most of the campsite this weekend.
Despite the rain and mud, yes lots of mud, nothing could dampen the spirits of the runners and supporters. We all knew it was going to be a wet muddy one and many of us traded our trail shoes and trainers in for canoes!
The marshals and officials confirmed just how muddy it was to us and whilst we all moaned and grimaced, we knew we would all be convinced by Mr Garrett to just get out there and get on with it in true NRR style. His advice was to start ‘slow’ and get ‘slower’……
There were some amazing achievements this weekend, with NRR winning most of the trophies and fantastically coming 2nd across the 3 races.
As a team, we always stay behind to support the trophy winners from other clubs, but this year, it was the claret and yellow army of Dave Green, Hayley Munn, Jo Windrum, Penny Andrews and Tony Letts that went up, time after time, to collect their well deserved trophies t they had all worked so hard for in such awful running conditions.

MICK CLARKE AWARD - It was nice to hear Mick’s name mentioned this weekend as he was a true supporter at Colworth in previous years. The organiser described Mick as an amazing friendly guy who would encourage anybody to run the race, no matter what. He was with us all in spirit agasin this year.
A big thank you to everybody who ran this weekend, you were all absolutely amazing and dug your heels in and just got on with the challenge and even managed a few smiles to cross the line. The photos on facebook do you proud.
Jo Windrum had an outstanding performance this year and it was good to see so many others complete all 3 races over the weekend. We had our super mum-to-be, Jo Letts, running on the Friday and deciding to go for it on the Sunday and do one lap of the muddy course. Claire Eales stole our hearts when she managed all 3 races after a gentle push from her hubby John. Claire really didn’t want to do it but went for it and achieved it!! Well done Claire, your tears and smiles as your crossed the line said it all.
It was great to see so many new and old members all mixing together and joining in the spirit of the event. The mud will ensure that we will remember this for many years. It soon washes away but we have photos to prove our efforts.
Also, a big thank you our supporters us on the day, especially Dave Solomon, John and Adam Eales, Steve Priors and Mike Palmer.
